The RECIPOL “Cervera” Excellence Network, led by the Technology Centre of Furniture and Wood of the Region of Murcia, has emerged as a pioneering initiative in the research and development of advanced technologies for recycling and recovering polyurethane materials, used in upholstery sector. This project brings together four centres of technological excellence, specialised in sectors where polyurethane-based materials are prevalent, including footwear, packaging, automotive, and construction.
Why RECIPOL?
Recycling in many industries presents a significant challenge, often requiring companies to seek expertise from technology centres. RECIPOL focuses on economically viable recycling and recovery systems for materials that are notoriously difficult to recycle, with a particular emphasis on polyurethane-based materials.
The project’s recycling and recovery technologies aim to reduce dependence on fossil-based resources while minimising the environmental impact caused by waste at the end of a product’s life cycle. Through these efforts, the consortium seeks to enhance its national and international position in R&D related to Circular Economy, recycling, and improved sustainability in waste management. The ultimate goal is to increase capabilities for participation in R&D projects and deliver viable, profitable solutions to industry.
By driving forward applied research and technology transfer in the field of complex material recycling, RECIPOL’s member centres are positioning themselves as key players in promoting the Circular Economy. Their innovations include renewable or sustainable polyurethane synthesis, methods facilitating chemical recycling via thermal stimuli, and technologies for polymer recycling and recovery.
The collaboration between these leading technology centres promises to be instrumental in developing innovative, sustainable technologies that contribute to a more prosperous and efficient circular economy.
